Cultures of Parenting: Raising a Black Son in America
Experience the premiere of Season 2 of The New York Times’ animated short series, Conception, created from stories about parenting submitted by Times’ readers. Watch the gripping story of Debra Johnson, who explores her hopes and fears about motherhood and her 1-year-old son in Chicago. Following the short film, join Debra herself, anthropologists Dana-ain Davis(CUNY) and Laurence Ralph (Princeton), and activist DeRay Mckesson (Black Lives Matter) in a conversation about race and parenting. The conversation is moderated by Times correspondent John Eligon and focuses on the question: What does it mean to raise a young black man in America today?
